I got some more info today from the AICPA:

A delay could be for several reasons the most likely two are: 1. you were close  and your exam is under further review; 2 the particularly test plates you took (as well as other candidates) were selected for additional statistical analyses.  She said I should be getting something around the middle of June.

I think I get it, but just want to be sure. I am ramping up for the REG section as my first section. As such, I am having to learn about the exam itself, in addition to the subject material.

I am using Gleim materials. In my study, I am scoring on average between a 75 and 83% or so on everything. There is still more work to be done to boost those up a bit more.

I hear that 55% of the candidates do not pass the first time around and that the exam is curved. This implies that my raw % correct score issued by Gleim WILL NOT be the score issued by the graders (all things equal), b/c it doesn't account for the curve, right?

I think about a curved test in college, usually its your raw score + the curve. Gleim gives me an 80% say - since that is uncurved, does that mean I could score in the 90s on the real test assuming my performance is on par with the practice sessions.

Second question, I am getting conflicting information about communication grading in the sims. The comm tab is NOT graded for technical accuracy right? Only for writing style? Or is it half/half?

Many of the questions you come across in Gleim will be more challenging
than what you will see on the exam. I'd focus my efforts on the questions
that are sourced from the CPA exam rather than those by the publisher
or from other sources. Questions from the publisher, EA exam, etc. are
often much more in depth than what you will see on the CPA exam.
Almost anything that requires you to remember a number will not be on
the test.

As for the exam grading, welcome to the wonderful world of the CPA
exam. The passing rate hovers around 50%, the numerical scores do not
correspond to percentage correct, and the AICPA claims the exam is not
curved. There is more information about exam grading at the AICPA
website.

I love it when people say the communication is not graded for technical
accuracy. I am willing to bet that if you write a memo on elephants, you
will receive a very low communication score no matter how well you
write. There is little reason to be technically inaccurate in the
communication tab, for anything you are unsure of can usually be looked
up in the research tab. Be careful with your time. Of all the exams, REG
was the most time constraining for me.

Look over the recently released AICPA questions. I know many say they
are not worth looking at, but they are wrong.

In response to your second Q...

Source:http://www.cpa-exam.org/cpa/written_communic.html

Constructed responses will be scored holistically. Scores will be based on three general writing criteria: Organization, Development, and Expression.

Organization: the document’s structure, ordering of ideas, and linking of one idea to another:

  • Overview/thesis statement
  • Unified paragraphs (topic and supporting sentences)
  • Transitions and connectives

Development: the document’s supporting evidence/information to clarify thoughts:

  • Details
  • Definitions
  • Examples
  • Rephrasing

Expression: the document’s use of conventional standards of business English:

  • Grammar (sentence construction, subject/verb agreement, pronouns, modifiers)
  • Punctuation (final, comma)
  • Word usage (incorrect, imprecise language)
  • Capitalization
  • Spelling
In my opinion and from my personal experience, it is graded for both technical accuracy and writing style. It is a total waste of time writing long stories.

I used Gleim for all four sections (online & CD MCQs). I usually averaged in the 80's on the MCQs.  My online weighted scores for AUD, BEC, FAR, and REG are 87.86%, 88.13%, 86.86%, and 88.08%, respectively.  You can see my exam scores in my signature.  If you score in the 80's in Gleim, you will have no problem passing the real exams.  The caveat is you should allow Gleim to pick the questions.  If you just do the CPA-derived ones, your mileage might vary.
