Hello,

I just recently passed all 4 parts of the CPA exam and i'm trying to get certified in TX. I live in Houston and have over 5 yrs of accounting experience.  I'm trying to get everything together for my manager to sign off on the work experience, but I was reading the form and don't know if I qualify or not.  My official title with the company I currently work at, which would be qualified as "industry" as employer category, is International accountant.  I have never worked in a public firm and based on the work experience form my manager has to fill out, I'm not sure I qualify, this form pretty much asks you to have audit experience!!!

For the most part I have done G/L accounting (preparing monthly and correcting entries), prepared monthly schedules for management, and quarterly schedules for auditors, and have assisted in analysis of variances on a monthly basis to name a few.

Can any of you tell me under what category my work experience will qualify?  The only thing they have here is attest services, and professional acct services wich include: issuing reports on financials, providing management or consulting services, preparing tax returns, providing advice in tax matter, forensic accounting and internal audit.  THESE ARE ALL PUBLIC ACCOUNTING CATEGORIES, i'm not an auditor!!! where are the choices for industry accounting?

Please let me know if any of you know, I work for an oil & gas company and I just don't see my manager being able to check off any of these choices they have in the work experience form!!!!

I've been told by the tx board that any work experience under a cpa will count.

really?  I called the board the day before thanksgiving, but they were close, so i'm anxiously waiting for Monday to talk to them.  What I still don't understand is the category that will need to be filled out in the work experience form, as I said before the only thing they have is attest services and acct professional services.  Under professional services , the categories they have seem to qualify a public accountant, i don't see what box my manager would be able to check off.  I want to research this cause I know he's going to ask me that same question....I don't have any consulting or tax experience which is what the board seems to want under the professional services category....man i'm just frustrated, I thought I would have my license by now! :(

Please post your result as my job closely matches yours and I would be interested to hear their answer.
