I am still working on the CPA exam, 3 down and 1 more to go.  I am considering CMA after I finish CPA exam and I have a question regarding to CMA exam part 1 Waive qualification.

Do I need to have CPA license or just a proof that I passed all parts of CPA exam?  Once I finish the CPA exam, I do need to have at least 1 year audit experience to get CPA license in PA. However, I may qualify to get CPA license in DE without audit experience.  Nevertheless, the application and board approval process may take up to 10 months depends on the state board.  It would be very helpful on my planning if anyone can clarify the Part 1 exam waive qualification requirement.

Thank you!

Looks like there will not be any need for waiver now.. As per the IMA website FAQs, no waivers will be provided to anyone ( assuming you take the new CMA program ). Please check below.

Good Luck

Yes, I saw the update on the IMA website.  The old format of the CMA exam is still available until the end of December, 2010.  I was informed by the CMA admin that the waiver is qualified for people who passed the CPA exam without the certification/license.  It looks like the new exam format would be offered starting May 1st, 2010.

As soon as I finish the CPA exam, I am planning to prepare for the CMA exam, but I am not sure which format is better or easier to take..

If anyone knows any more than what is posted on the IMA website, please share!  Thank you.

Not sure which is easier or better.  The new format is only 8 hours, but I guess if you're waiving a part of the old format you'll be around that much time anyway.

Is the old exam all multiple choice and no essays?
