Hi Lelik,

Thanks for all your responses!

I have passed the CPA exams from CO Board. But haven't applied for the license yet. Now I am planning to pursue CIA. Do you know if we get Part 4 exemption in CIA for passing the CPA exams or do we have to be a license holder to get the exemption?

Thanks again!

Bhuvan, it's a good question. I want to say that you have to be a CPA (registered or licensed), but I am not sure about that. You would be better off asking the IIA.

In general, there is no rush with getting an exemption for Part IV of the CIA exam. It will take you some time to pass the first 3 parts of the CIA exam. You can show your CPA license later to get an exemption. So, don't worry about that. If it makes you feel better, notify the IIA that you passed the CPA exam and are applying for the license.

Hey, Bhuvan. Though, your question was directed to lelik, I would like to volunteer based on my personal experience. All you need is to send them a copy of your congratulatory letter (if you have one) or some kind of proof that you passed the exam. IIA will accept and grant you waiver for part IV.

Late Bloomer, the website (http://www.theiia.org/certification/certified-internal-audi tor/cia-eligibility-requirements/cia-professional-recognitio n-credit/ )states:

Submit documentation of successful completion of the approved certification. Documentation of completing only the examination requirements for any given certification, with the exception of The IIA’s specialty certifications (CCSA, CFSA, CGAP) will not be accepted. The certification used for the exemption must also be in current status.  Examples of evidence include a copy of the appropriate certification certificate or a letter from the sponsoring organization indicating that the candidate has successfully completed the certification requirements and is in current status.
