im confused about this CPE thing. after getting licensed CPA you have to have so many hours every year, right ? well do you have to have so many hours BEFORE becoming CPA?? Im taking some training classes that say CPE credit, but im not CPA yet. im confused

CPE stands for continuing professional education. You can take continuing education anytime. to maintain your CPA license you must have a certain number of CPE credits each year. The number of credits varies by state. You only need the credits after you become licensed. My state (MD) requires 80 hours every two years in order to renew your license.
