I am hoping to pass the CPA exam right before I move to Australia.  Does anyone know of any resources that will help to figure out what I need to do to be qualified in Australia?  I looked on the CPA Australia website and found only that I would need to take an assessment to make my US Bachelor's Degree valid in Australia.

Here is one of my questions:

If I pass the exam in the US, does that count as passing the exam in Australia as well or will I have to take supplemental classes and retake the exam?

Thanks in advance for any help!

harrisnr82,

by any chance, were you able to find the answer to your question? I am planning to do the same thing. I was researching on the CPA Australia website also, but it didn't really help.

I was also wondering if, after passing the exam, I would be able to get licensed in Australia.

I have family there and this past summer I spent about a month in Sydney. It's just such a beautiful place with a lot of opportunity (not saying that America isn't because I do plan to come back). But I personally would like to try living and working in a different country for a couple years while I have the chance. I think it would be really fun.

I just need to find out how everything transfers.

It seems that your options are either to use your US degree to qualify to sit for the Australian CPA exam, or become qualified as a CPA in the US first (i.e. passing the exam and undertaking any additional ethics exam/work experience etc) which will allow you to gain recognition as a CPA in Australia. If your application is successful, you will not need to take the Australian CPA exam .

You may email MAIS.admission@cpaaustralia.com.au with inquiries about your eligibility as a US CPA to become a CPA in Australia. I found all this information at Pathway for US Qualified CPAs on the CPA Australia website.

Best of luck with your quest to work in Australia! It is a wonderful place and there's nowhere else like it.
