So after Florida pulled the rug out from under me by instituting a work experience requirement, I'm now trying to find states that don't have work experience requirement for CPA licensure, and from what I can tell the only ones are Massachusetts and Colorado (correct me if I'm wrong please!).  I don't have enough accounting classes to do Colorado, so I'm gonna try MA (which waives work experience if you have a masters in business/accounting/law).  Has anyone gone thru the process in MA?  Gonna have to shell out almost $1K on initial application and the fee for all 4 exams, but given all the time and money I've already put into going for this, seems like a shame to just give up now.

I am sitting for the exam in MA now and can atleast tell you that I didn't need an 'work' hours requirment.  Though I have a Masters in Accounting.

As long as you meet the required education credits.  You can sit.  I think there is a difference in the liscense but really just a suttle one...like a CPA with limitations (until you get your hours).

In MA, if you pass your exam without experience, you get your license but can't sign off on financial statements, so basically can't be a partner at a public firm. But you do not need the work experience for a regular license.

MA has two levels of licenses, and one of them is the one you get without the 1000 audit hours.  From what I've heard, other states won't recognize it if you want to try to get licensed elsewhere later on.

I might be wrong, but I think his motivation would be just to be able to use the ,CPA after his name for resume purposes without being on AICPA's "naughty" list.  I'm looking for the same trick myself.

Do out-of-staters REALLY have to re-pay for all the exams even if they've already paid for them?  I've talked to numerous "unlicensed CPAs" and they just slap ,CPA behind their names without even thinking twice about it.

Now what?
