Hello all, I was hoping I could get some advice about exam eligibility in PA. I got my degree in finance, but also took a few extra accounting courses at night while I was working. The language about eligibility seems a little vague to me ...here's what they say

"candidates must have graduated with a bachelor’s or master’s degree and completed at least 24 semester credits in accounting subjects. These subjects include accounting and auditing, business law, finance, or tax subjects acceptable to the SBOA"

Okay, here are the courses I have completed, if anyone could offer their opinion I would be very appreciative. I don't want to go through initial application process if I'm wasting my time.

I have completed the following courses:

Financial Accounting (acctg 214) - 3 hrs

Managerial Accounting (acctg 215) - 3 hrs

Acctg Info Systems (acctg 216) - 3 hrs

Intermed. Acct I (acctg 311) - 3 hrs

Cost Acctg ( Acctg 315) - 3 hrs

Intermed. Acctg II (Acctg 312) - 3 hrs

Income Tax (acctg 412) - 3 hrs

Auditing  (acctg 413) - 3 hrs

If those all qualify, I have my 24 hours right there.

In addition, I have the following:

Business Law - 3 hrs

Business Finance - 3 hrs

Theory of Finance - 3 hrs

Financial Mgmt - 3 hrs

Security Analysis - 3 hrs

Cases in Finance - 3 hrs

Credit Management - 3 hrs

I don't know if grades are factored in, I got a few C's, I assume that qualifies since it is a passing grade.

I have also spent 3 months working at a small CPA firm, not sure if that helps or not either.

Does anyone think I need to be worried about qualifying for the exam ? Thanks so much for your help.

gekko, yes you will qualify under the 120 hr rule in PA.  You will need 2 years of experience instead of 1 to become licensed.

I don't know whether other states are different than TX but I filled out the mandatory application of intent with the board for $50. The board issued a letter listing what requirements had been met and what still had to be done before sitting for the exam.

Thanks a bunch for your input guys.

Von Kaiser, I understand I have the 120 hours, but are you certain I have enough Accounting credits, I feel as though I do, but I have no way of being certain.

Vicky, I don't belive there is such a thing in PA as what you describe, that would be helpful though.

gekko, PA will not answer your questions ahead of time. You will have to send in the money for the application, it is the only way they will do it in PA.  Trust me, if those classes were taken at an accredited college, then you will have no problems with the 120 rule.
