I just joined this forum and I notice a wealth of information here. However currently I'm wondering if anyone here could help/advise me? I'm qualified to appear for the exam and specifically for FARE in the Jan-Feb 2010 window. However its Jan 19th and after just having been laid off a job where I was working 7 days a week, although I now have time to study, am I crazy for trying to do this from scratch 4 weeks before the exam date?

1. The last time I studied accountancy (even though I've been working in related fields since then) was about 15 years ago
2. I am literally starting this today and am completely panicking about the scope and extent of information I have to finish before the exam
3. I have the Wiley FARE book for 2009, Yaeger FARE DVDs and 2009 Becker FARE book.

Question: Am I being completely unrealistic thinking I can study and give this exam by the end of next month, when I have to start out with refreshing all of the concepts?

I have to finish this asap since I will have to look for my next job soon and really want to give this exam before the 2011 changes, since if I don't it will mean giving up on trying to be a CPA.

Should I give the exam? Where should I be studying from? Can I finish studying in time if there's just about 4 weeks left to start and finish studying?

Any help/advise is tremendously appreciated and thank you so much in advance !!

No reason not to take the exam next month, unless it's a money thing.  You have all day to study and even if you fail, take it again at the beginning of April.

Hello,

I admire your determination and wish you all the best.

My 2 cents:

- Pick either Yaeger DVD or Becker book to practice (no time to study both)

- Use the rest of your time on practice tests. Do them until you get every single one right; and if you have time, do it again.

That's what I did when I took the 4 exams in one go after 5 years out of college + a full time job + family + 6 months to prepare...

... and I passed all 4. You can do it!

Cheers, Stephanie

Thank you for your replies ! I appreciate it. :)

It's not as much a finance issue as it is a time issue, since I will not have a lot of time to study (have to be back to work in a few days at a different job + family + other complications/obligations).

Stephanie, *hugs*, thanks. I admire you for doing what you did too, inspite of all of your challenges. Thanks for your advise about the course of study, since I definately do not have time to study more than one course.

Thanks again for your response and best of luck to everyone out there who is trying to do this like me, inspite of very severe time constraints.

Take care everyone..
