Hi, I'm scheduled to take FARE soon, and I'm a first-timer.  Can someone please share what to do as time runs out on the exam?  Do I need to log out somehow, or does the test just stop if I run out of time?  I know a lot of people say they struggle to finish within the time limit.

Thanks,

Jan

Jan,

As time runs out, arbitrarily pick a letter and answer all your multiple choice with that letter, such as B or C. While points are not counted off if you are wrong, you might actually get a few right by dumb luck.

My understanding is that the clock keeps running, whether you take a break or not.

If time runs out you will more than likely be on the simulations.  You have to take the three mc testlets first and the two simulations last.

If you were a fast test taker in school, time might not be a problem on the CPA.  I finished FAR with an hour to spare.  However not everyone tests the same.  Keep an eye on your time while doing the MC.  If you are taking longer than you think you should on them, then you might want to forgo double checking your answers (otherwise ALWAYS double check).

If you are on the simulations and running out of time, skip to the end.  Research is quick points, but does not count for much.  For the writing, just a few well organized sentences can get you quite a few points.

Lastly, if you need to eat or use the restroom partway into your exam, do it.  That extra stress or rush can cause you to miss a lot on your exam.  Don't be afraid of breaks.

Take the practice final exams and see how your time is.

Good Luck!
