Hi All

I want to apply for the CPA exam from the Virginia Board. I have just completed my accounting courses to become eligible for the exam and it'll take two weks o get my transcript.

I wanted to know how long does it take to apply and get an NTS and schedule an exam. I was just wondering that would it be possible to give the exam in November, if I apply after 2 weeks with the Virginia Board.

Please reply. I need help urgently

Hi Teddy.  Good luck!  I can only share my own experience.  When I paid online (NASBA.org) and registered to sit for FAR, I received my NTS to my email account within two days.  It typically takes up to five business days to receive the email NTS after payment is received.  I placed my subsequent order this Tuesday morning and haven't received my NTS yet but I'm hopeful to receive it in just a few more days.

I would just encourage you to be flexible with your date, time and test location.  Don't expect to find the combination you really want because most other test-takers have the same desires (plus MANY other credentialing exams are taken at Prometric sites!).

Be willing to drive a long distance and even stay in a hotel overnight if that helps you get the test-taking date you want.  After all, the financial cost is worth it in the long run.

Hi DumbButTrying

Thanks for your reply.

But could you tell me how long the entire process takes. My transcripts will reach the board of accountancy around 8th Oct. So will I be able to schedule the Nov exam.

Actaually I want to be certain, as the Becker live classes in my area is beginning on 19th Oct, and I want to join it. But in case I am not able to schedule than I'll be a problem as the syllabus is chnging beginning next year.

Hi Teddy,

It will be doable, but you will not be able to get the date/location you want.  After they receive the transcripts they still have to review them then post that you are eligible, and only then you can pay for your NTS.  Then about three days later, you will receive your NTS by email and be able to schedule the test at Prometric.  At that point you will be in middle October and you will have to take whatever time slot you can get in November.  Your live class that starts on October 19, how long does it last?  How about switching to Self-Study DVDs instead (the Becker materials are the same)?

Here is why I made the above suggestion about accelerating your study through Self-Study.  I received my NTS today to schedule an exam (AUD) in October-November window.  When I checked the location nearest me (about one and a half hour drive) November 16-30 were completely grayed out (all full, no vacancies).  So I could choose a date earlier than November 15, or drive to a site farther away.
