This will affect my career choice.  I've heard of some lawsuits out there regarding "exempt" employees, but don't know how far those cases have went.

No they don't pay overtime, but if you get an offer from Big 4, you are crazy if you are thinking about it.  You are GOLDEN if you get a job in Big 4.  Stay in Big 4, is going to be really bad the first few years then it going to get better, in 15 to 20 years (rarely in less) you should be a partner.

It sounds to me like you may have some misinformation there.  Very few will make it to partner anywhere.  Not every CPA in the world can be a partner.

So why let that stop you?  Don't worry about what every CPA in the world is doing; just worry about what you're doing and what you need to do to get the desired results.  You wanna be a partner?  Go for it!

If you work fir Big 4 for 15 years to 20 years, the odds are that you are going to be a partner.  I haven't seen a CPA with 20 years in Big 4 that isn't at least a Junior Partner

Even if you do not make partner in the big 4, you could probably make it to partner at a national or regional firm given that you have made it to the senior manager level. Also its not the fact that every CPA can't become a partner, its also because some people don't want to become partners since its a lot of responsibility, there is money at stake, and networking/communication skills are important. There are other things you can do with a CPA than becoming partner.
