i already have an offer from big 4 in audit and i have a B.S Finance & M.S in Accounting. it would be reasonable to say that I would probably spend one year in Audit and move to advisory. how are the titles handled? for example, if i were considered a Experienced Associate after 1 year, move into advisory position, would it be Senior Associate?

I don't think you'd be considered an experienced associate.  But if you were, you'd become a senior associate.  I spoke with a senior in advisory he told me not to apply to audit if I want to do advisory.  He is speaking from experience he was audit for 3 years, and went into advisory after.

Are you a campus hire?  If so then the answer is no.  Sorry.  You will not be promoted to senior associate after one year, especially if you move groups.  If anything, moving groups is going to set you back a year.

If you are an "experienced" hire and have been promised a "quick promotion", then I would wait for the promotion before rocking the boat.

It takes a minimum of 2-3 years for promotion to Senior as a campus hire, depending on the big 4 firm.  Generally, changing groups midstream complicates/delays this progression.

campus recruiters told me that it would be best to go into audit to know the ins and outs before going through advisory.i also know someone who went 2 years auditing and then due diligence advisory. but then again, i know ppl who were hired straight into advisory when the economy was good.

Some firms have moved from 3 years to Senior to 2 but now
they are moving back to requiring 3 and letting the rare
exception be promoted in 2.

Danny, don't think you are the exception and then be upset
when you are not. If you go in expecting to being promoted
in 3 and then you are early then you will be really happy.

If you want to go into Advisory why don't you apply for it?
Or a straight consulting firm?
