Anyone who's using Becker answer the supplemental questions?

Is it a waste of time, or worth the time, especially considering that there's usually at least 70 more questions?

I am taking Becker as well and my instructor said not to do the supplemental questions because a lot of them are out dated and in addition to this, there are far too many questions to work. He basically told us to come to class and then practice the homework questions as soon as possible, while using the books as a reference. He also jokingly said if we wanted to watch a sane person go over the topics then the lecture CD is provided but definitely not required.

In class he points out what not to read and emphasizes certain topics within each section that are vital exam topics. The lecture CD on the other hand goes over everything and when the superfluous topics come up, they BS them and you are left really confused about the topic. They literally say a sentence or two and skip to the next topic at times! I think I lucked out with a very good instructor (he is funny and interesting throughout the whole lecture), even though I did not pass my first exam.

The real reason I did not pass was because I let my social life get in the way of my studies. I probably studied for 15 hours a week (mostly on Saturday and Sunday) on average for BEC, while trying to follow the Becker scheduling guidelines. That is, 3 weeks of class and 2 more weeks of review before the exam. I am now taking the next exam seriously because I was only 1 point away and I know I am way better student than I have recently been!

Hi Mark,

I read with interest your comments about the Becker CPA materials and found them quite interesting.  I can really emphatize with your failure as I have failed ACCA papers by just one mark.  I am now preparing for the FAR and BEC which I plan to sit in Oct 2007.  I realize that you are also preparing for the FAR and BEC and will be taking exams on July 28 and Aug 24 respectively.  The materials I used are Gleim (FAR & BEC Books, CD and audio), Wiley (FAR Simulation CD)  and CPAexel (Self-Study Guide for FAR).

You mentioned that your lecturer told you of certain vital exam topics. May I ask what are these areas for the FAR and BEC? I would love for us to share notes and ideas about these exams.  I can be contacted at romcom@cwjamaica.com

Drop me a line.

Romain
