For some reason I am finding it extremely hard to sit down and focus on BEC and AUD.  I keep getting scared and pushing the exams forward.  Now I am up against the wall as I need to have done all exams and passed them by August.  I am in grad school and from June, I will have my whole family back so it will be harder to study.  I am beginning to think I am book lazy.  I prefer to work than read textbooks (I love novels!!).  Does any one feel that way?

If so how have you overcome this?  Are you still struggling?  I am just venting, folks! We might all learn from each others challenges and successes!

Thanks, guys!

I have been taking this exam since May 2006, and after a lot of procrastinating I finally got serious, studied LOTS, and passed the last 3 sections I took.

A little background...I was working at a small pharmaceutical company that got taken over by a large pharmaceutical company during the 1st quarter of 2008, and lost my job as a result.  On interviews, I was always asked how many parts of the exam I passed.  Some companies wouldn't even look at resumes unless at least 2 parts were passed.  I did manage to get another job, but the thought of that happening to me again scared me into getting serious.

I don't think, though, that you need a scare to get motivated.  Although this sounds like a cliche, it's true that the feeling you get when you get a passing score is so motivation enough.  Maybe, since you haven't taken any parts yet, you can be motivated with knowing just how great you'll feel when you pass.  I'm not going to lie and say it's easy.  I certainly would rather be reading a Stephen King book than a Becker book any day!  But it will be so worth it in the end.

Try to break it down into smaller pieces, instead of worrying about the entire exam, try focusing solely on 1 chapter at a time.  That's what I did and it helped a lot.  If you set small goals you can meet in a day or 2 it is a lot easier to stay motivated.

I am so with you! I work full time and have a very active toddler (who rarely sleeps through the night!) to take care of when I'm not at work so when I finally tuck him into bed at night it is so incredibly hard for me to motivate myself to stay up and study. I find myself wanting to read a novel to wind down from the busy day and when I do study I find myself nodding off after half an hour. So I did the same thing, I pushed the exams back as far as I was able, which meant that I had to take the first test (BEC) January 6th and I'm taking REG next Friday. It's easy to get burned out but on Monday I found out that I failed the BEC test and that lit a fire under my rear! I can't afford to take these stupid tests over and over again! (either time or money!) So I'm now an evening coffee drinker and am trying to cram as much as I can. The moral of the story: schedule your tests, hide the books and even if you don't, pretend you have your test next week and if it helps pretend you just passed or failed one already (whichever is more motivating!) You can do it, you just need the right frame of mind!
