I've been reading the research component of the new exam format is pretty much the same as the old, where you have a situation/question and you have to go in and select which section it corresponds to. However, I know in the past, the research has been such as a small part of the grade, the CPA review instructors say "if you have to blow something off, blow off the research." As in, it's only one point of the exam or something like that.
However, this year, it's an entire TBS, and the simulations are worth 40% instead of 20%. So, let's say with REG for example, if there are 6 TBS's, and one is thrown out, does it mean that it's 1/5 of your simulation grade, making it 8%, or 8 points of your exam grade? That would be a pretty radical step up from what it was before. And it would be pretty cruel to have that much of your grade decided by an all or nothing decision.
Or is this not how they do it at all, and it's either weighted differently, or not "all or nothing?" Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I think it's probably weighted. When I was reading about even just the MCQ's those are weighted too, so you don't get as many points for getting an easy question right as you do for getting a difficult question right. Given this information for MCQ's, I would imagine that the TBS is the same way. In a single tab you can have 10 fields to complete- I would think getting 9/10 fields correct you would get some kind of points on that. You're right, it would be pretty cruel to make it an all or nothing situation...
