Hello All,

Do most people think their college curriculums really prepared them for the real everyday accounting career?  I feel blindsided. I got my BS & MS accounting with great grades from Binghamton, (which is supposed to be a really good program because half of my class went to the Big 4 in Manhattan) but I can barely hold on to entry-level positions. After 5 years, and 3 different types of accounting jobs, I know I don't have the detail ability or even calculation speed to keep up with my peers. I get lost in the mountains of data that I'm supposed to untangle, and I have terrible organizational skills.  These weaknesses were never detected in college because most of our grades came from multiple-choice tests and term papers, etc.  I aced auditing, but I realized that I never did a single audit procedure in class. We just learned SOX facts and other big-picture ideas. Then, when I got to my audit job I had no sense of what to do. How do most of you feel about your college education?
