have anyone, or know anyone, who has received a job at a top 10
accounting firm by simply applying online? i graduated a couple years
ago so campus recruit is out of the question. without knowing anyone
in big 4, what is the best way to get u're foot through the door?

orkim706, networking. Become a member of the local CPA Society. They normally have breakfasts or receptions. You can meet a lot of people this way.

how much previous job experience did u have wannabcpa? did u start as 1st year associate?

I had 2 years of state governmental auditing experience, which basically translated into 1 year public, so I started off as a 2nd year.
