I started part time work 20 hours a week . $15/hr . My question is I did not get any job offer letter or any thing in paper that I got this job or that I am  their employee . I applied , was called for an interview and the next day they called me and said they were giving me this job and I accepted the job offer on the phone . That is it . The next working day I am at work . No evidence in paper .

I got this job on my own , not through a staffing agency .

Will they think wrong if I ask them " to give some thing in paper that I work for them".

Please help me . This is my first job in America.

lakshmip, it's absolutely normal for the smaller companies. I worked for 4 years without any contract. Yes, it's o.k. to ask them to put everything in writing (an e-mail is fine).

How is the future hiring company going to believe me about my job experience if I dont have anything in writing from this company. That is my fear . Wont they ask me for proof of experience.

Your next employer will call to verify your experience. I would not ask your current employer about the proof because they will think that you are weird. Do not worry, I have worked for small companies before. I did not have any job offers in writing. It is normal.

lakshmip, normally, companies either believe you (read: don't care) or call your previous employer. I don't think that anybody would think that you are weird if you ask for anything in writing. In the US, you have to have everything in writing. Country of lawsuits...
