Has anybody here that has worked for a public CPA firm taken part or parts of the exam during the Jan/Feb window?  If you had to take a day off of work to do this, did your firm allow this?  Do they recommend that you wait until late April/May to take the exam(s)?  If you are in your first year at a public firm, are they more willing to let you take a day off if need be to take a section of the exam? I will probably be able to take my first section in November of this year, but would I have to wait until May to take the next part due to the busy season?  Any thoughts on this? Thanks?

At my firm, nobody takes the exam during busy season.  I believe most firms are against you taking days off during busy season unless there is an emergency, regardless of how high or low you are in the organization.  I am guessing most firms are Monday - Saturday as well so taking the exam on Saturday usually isn't an option.

Taking the exam is probably going to be hard but there is no crime in studying after work and taking the exam in April/May...Good luck :)

I work for a small CPA firm and I took a Becker live class
during the month of January. I waited until April 18th to
sit for Reg. Working so many hours, it took that much time
to study and feel confident. My boss encouraged me to sit
for the exam and get the designation regardless of what
time of year it was. If you are willing to do the work, I
don't see why you couldn't sit for the exam during the busy
season. Even working Saturdays, you can take a section at
8 a.m. and then go in to work a little late. BEC is only a
2.5 hour exam.

I work at a a big 4 and took a couple exams during our tax busy season or
provision time. I can't speak for other firms, but mine realized the fact that
you are given a very specific timeframe to complete these tests and was
willing to work with me (and coworkers) to allow us time to study and take
the test.
