Sadly, it seems to me now that young people, like me, entered accounting out of a combination of insecurity, not having any real passion, and a false belief that accounting will provide job security like no other field and allow you to remain socially inept.
I mean, let's face it, looking at spreadsheets and analyzing arcane regulations and rules is nothing to be passionate about unless you brainwash yourself. Auditors aren't doing anything to help clients make money in their core business, even if they pretend to. And tax accountants aren't doing anything but appeasing Uncle Sam and helping people work around tax rules that shouldn't be there in the first place, courtesy of our government.
Forensic accounting, on the other hand, does sound like a rewarding career if I could break into it. But, I don't see those opportunities anywhere.
