I'm using Becker and Gleim to study for my first CPA section (FAR), and I'm constantly scoring 60% my first time around on the MC questions... No matter how hard I try, I seem to always misunderstand the %&#(%# questions and what they want. Should I be worried? :\. It doesn't take a CPA to figure out that 60 < 75...

The second time around, probably thanks to memorization of the questions and what they want, I seem to score 90's on the MCQ's though (the reason I ponied up the money for some extra Gleim questions over Becker's limited supply, to try to dampen that effect). Guess I'm just looking for how everyone else has scored on their Becker questions as compared to their test scores.

Hi fido36

You should be ok, even I was scoring in 50's when I tried 1st time, in second round if you are scoring in 90's you should be fine, instead of memorizing answer, understand why the answers are correct/wrong choices also, it is the best way to learn the given material

I have used Becker, and feel Becker should be enough (of course time will tell), I would suggest use one material, but do it thoroughly, you should be fine in the exam

wish you all the best

I had the same feeling when I was preparing, after gettin in high 60s , I was getting in high 90s after doing those questions couple of times, but I made a conscious effort to not to remember the answers and before picking the right answer I would go through the concept in my head and then pick the answer. Its all about practise and i think its a good idea to go through gliem questions, it does help........

I wouldn't worry about your initial mark on your passmaster.  Key is to just do it again and once more again.  If you're memorizing the answers...who cares?  It's not hurting you.  Just be sure to study off the incorrect choices too.  The actual exams tend to be easier...or should i say, marked easier...it's not a 1:1 relationship between questions and mark.  I'd say, if you're not getting at least a 65% on the first go, you're don't have a good foundation so you'd probably need to read the text.  I'd say you're losing 15-20% due to question format/ the way the questions are posed and not becuase you don't know your stuff.  So once you get a feel for the question structure your marks will rise as well.

I was scoring in the high 60s my first time an 90s the second time. I spaced out the second time I did the questions by at least a week so I don't remember but I felt like I still remembered. Either way, I passed the first time so don't worry too much.
