Considering the fact that this is the section that most people are assume to crush, and to scrape by with the MC, you'd have to really crush the MC to pass this exam if you bombed the essays, or left them blank.
Just remember that they're really only looking for grammar and whether or not you stayed on topic. I'd suggest always using the spellcheck before you submitt your essays, and try to practice some topics and prepare fake memos and essays, and check your work using Microsoft Word. Turn grammar check off, prepare your essay, turn grammar check on, and the fewer green squiggly lines the better. Keep practicing cold until you get the point that you can prepare an essay without any green squiggly lines. That's the only thing that they're really searching for (and if there are any red squigly lines, but you are given spell check for that).
