S p e c i a l N o t i c e ========================================================== THE BALLOTS ARE OUT FOR THE AICPA GLOBAL CREDENTIAL VOTE The AICPA is giving you until December 28, 2001 to cast your vote on this important matter. If the vote passes, the AICPA will be given the authority to enable the granting of a global credential through a newly created affiliated entity. This new entity will be known as the International Institute of Strategic Business Professionals. Most of the larger CPA State Societies are urging their members to cast a "No" vote. In addition, informal polls indicate that many are opposed to the bylaw referendum. I have already mailed in my vote of "NO". The New York State Society of CPAs summarizes things well: "The global credential initiative, previously referred to as the XYZ, will have a dramatic impact on our CPA profession by decreasing opportunities for CPAs in the marketplace and by empowering competitors who will be operating in the same market space. The new credential could restrict expansion of the CPA profession. This initiative has also called into question the power and authority of the AICPA as defined in its corporate charter. It is imperative that all AICPA members cast a vote in this bylaw referendum, as passage will have tremendous implications for the profession as we know it today."
